This is a book which could serve well as a text for an undergraduate course in functional and complex analysis for either one or two semesters in engineering faculties. The content is divided into six chapters, as follows: 1. Measure theory and integration; 2. Normed vector spaces; 3. Series and Fourier transforms of functions; 4. Distributions; 5. Holomorphic functions and conformal transforms; 6. Entire series and Laurent series: calculus of residues. There are also four appendices that complete the content of the book. The first four chapters of the present volume are concerned with functional and harmonic analysis. The next two chapters deal with the theory of holomorphic functions. The abstract content of all chapters is illustrated by numerous exercises and applications to signal theory, optimization theory, the least squared method for solving linear systems, etc. Detailed solutions are also provided to all exercises included in this volume. This book is very clearly written; it should be accessible to readers with a background of basic courses in calculus and real analysis. Overall, the volume under review contains several important and interesting results and hence has a high potential of becoming a standard reference in the field. (ZDM/Mathdi)
